Twenty years after it’s closing, The Last Hurrah Nightclub is still remembered by many music lovers as the original ground-breaking nightclub in Portland’s emerging creative music community. Between 1975 and 1987, the Hurrah was regularly voted Portland’s Favorite Nightclub. The Last Hurrah was a smokehouse for the incredibly creative original music that developed during this golden era of Portland music. The list of great bands that played at this legendary nightclub is long and storied (see Music Legends). The short list of those that achieved national recognition includes: Pleasure, Quarterflash, Robert Cray Band, Jeff Lorber Fusion, Nu Shooz, Johnny and the Distractions, Dan Reed Network, and Billy Rancher and the Unreal Gods. Many other equally talented bands either led the way or brushed up against the nation’s brightest stage lights. |
